98% pure silica, 100% pure beauty. It can only be Whitehaven

I’m not usually a morning person, but waking up on the Whitsundays and climbing up on deck to catch a glimpse of the morning sun is a sight worth getting up for. We’d been sailing the Whitsunday’s since the previous afternoon and were making our way towards one of Australia’s most sought after beach locations, Whitehaven beach.

It’s not every day you wake up on a sailing yacht to witness wild dolphins diving playfully around the boat, as though putting on a performance for us all. Being a huge fan of dolphins, I could barely contain my excitement. It was a true privilege to witness these impressive creatures in their natural environment.

We caught a small speedboat across to the secluded island and made our way through the bush and down towards Whitehaven beach. Named the top ECO friendly beach in the world by CNN, the beach is known for its crystal white sands of 98% silica and unlike regular sand, it does not retain the heat making it comfortable to walk barefoot on a hot day. However take caution, as the sand is so fine it can damage electronic equipment (So keep your GoPro’s well wrapped up!)

When I first set foot on the soft sand, I was left in awe by the pure pristine environment and the clear turquoise waters that surrounded it. I couldn’t wait to throw my bags down and begin exploring this natural haven, from the mangroves to the open waters of the ocean, there was just so much to investigate, one could never find enough time.

I began at the mangroves where there were fish jumping all around me, before heading towards the open water where our group spotted yellow fin sharks and stingrays. It was such as pleasure to experience such a natural treasure like Whitehaven, and it makes you value the world and its spectacular sights, something that often goes unnoticed due to the negative outlook of the media today.

Anyway, after countless pictures and group selfies, we made our way to the hidden delights of the hill inlet and the lookout, home to the classic postcard picture of the Great Barrier Reef.

For a short walk, we were awarded with charming, formidable views across the island and I could have spent hours staring out across the beach, soaking up the beauty, lost in thought.

The only downside was that because of its tremendous beauty, we weren’t the first to hear of this place and there were other tourists who were also craving this classic postcard picture, and so I had to move out of the way so they could have their turn. People eh.
