Travelling long distances in the Australian Outback certainly calls for quality pub grub, and what better place to stop off and say G’day than at the Daly Waters Pub?

Situated in the heart of the Never Never, this little gem seemed to be a popular spot among both the locals and travellers in search of the authentic outback stay, and was famous for its classic ‘Barra wraps’.

For anyone who doesn’t know, ‘Barra’, or Barramundi, is a type of fish native to Australia with firm, white, fine grained meat (depending on where is has been sourced from). Over the years, It has gained a reputation as one of Australia’s finest eating fish.

Anyway, our guide strongly recommended to us that we don’t bother to look at the menu, and instead just order the Barra wrap with the promise that we wouldn’t regret it. He was right that’s for sure, I can safely say that it was the finest, tastiest wrap I have ever eaten. Had I have been a millionaire, I’d have ordered for a lifetime supply of them to be shipped to my doorstep. But I’m not. So that didn’t happen, much to my disliking.

However if you’re not really one for fish, and let’s face it, not everyone is, the pub has an extensive menu which caters for all budgets. So whether you fancy a kangaroo steak, salad or even the classic chicken schnitzel, the chefs will cook up a storm to leave you satisfied and ready to hit the road. Or the bar of course…

Other than the gratifying grub, the pub is also known for its unique décor, as the walls are lined with all kinds of belongings which people have left behind as a way of leaving their mark. This custom is said to have begun back in the 80’s with a coach driver and his female passengers setting a drinking bet, and has since become a tradition. From bras and flip flops to memorabilia, you’ll find it all on the walls at Daly.

So if you’re getting a little peckish, or have reached the stage where you’re hangry, turn off the Stuart Highway and get yourselves down to Daly. I can assure you won’t regret it.
